Following the launch of its PCIe 4.0-based XG8 consumer SSD, Kioxia has unveiled the XG10, an upgraded PCIe 5.0 M.2 solid-state drive engineered for high-performance personal computers. Even so, the flagship transfer speeds of this new model still lag behind the top-tier M.2 SSDs currently available on the market.
Featuring storage capacities ranging from 512 GB to 4 TB, these internal SSDs adopt TLC flash memory (3 bits per cell) to prioritize raw performance, instead of QLC flash (4 bits per cell) which focuses on storage capacity expansion. Consistent with this design philosophy, the XG10 delivers impressive random read and write performance of up to 2 million IOPS and 1.6 million IOPS respectively, alongside sequential read and write throughput hitting 14 GB/s and 12 GB/s. According to Kioxia’s official data, the new drive doubles the sequential reading speed and more than doubles the sequential writing speed compared to its predecessor. Additionally, its random read performance sees a 122% improvement, while random write performance surges by 158%. These substantial upgrades enable faster data access and markedly enhance system response efficiency.
Nevertheless, when sorting mainstream PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs from various manufacturers by sequential throughput, the XG10 only secures the eighth position in the speed ranking.
Up to now, Kioxia has not disclosed the endurance rating and latency parameters of the XG10. In terms of flash particle configuration, the 512 GB and 1 TB variants utilize the 6th-generation 162-layer BiCS 3D NAND flash, whereas the higher-spec 2 TB and 4 TB models are equipped with the latest 218-layer BiCS 8 flash memory.
The firm recently released the BG8, another DRAM-less M.2 SSD that adopts the identical PCIe 5.0 interface yet delivers far more conservative performance metrics than the XG10. The BG8 achieves 1.4 million/1.3 million IOPS for random read and write operations, with a maximum sequential read speed of 10.3 GB/s and a peak sequential write speed of 10 GB/s, fully reflecting the common market rule that performance is proportional to cost.
Kioxia positions the XG10 for high-end client-side scenarios, covering professional software operations, private AI model training and inference, media content creation and post-editing, as well as high-quality immersive gaming experiences.

At present, the XG10 is undergoing sample delivery for qualified PC OEM partners. Mass-produced personal computers pre-installed with this SSD are scheduled to hit the market starting from the second quarter of 2026. Furthermore, this new storage product will be showcased at Dell Technologies World, a tech exhibition taking place in Las Vegas from May 18 to May 21.
